Galveston Island, like much of the Texas Gulf Coast, has wetlands and
warm coastal waters that lure birds from all over the United States and
migratory birds from South America. The region is a haven for bird
watchers. Brazos Bend State Park, about thirty miles south of Houston,
is a 5,000 acre wetland preserve that is populated by a wide variety of
wildlife, including many birds, deer, alligators, turtles and insects.
