On night three, we camped at an established site overlooking Pine river, about fifteen miles from the trailhead. That night there was heavy rain and hail on us, and fresh snow above about 10,000 feet. In the morning, the new snow glistened as the clouds raced across the peaks, and the filtered sunlight gave a velvety look to the aspen forest and meadow below.
