Rafters negotiate the Hermit Rapid. This is a view from the Tonto Trail, 1700 feet above. Grand Canyon National Park, AZ. The rapids are exhilarating for modern travelers, but were apparently even more so before the Colorado was dammed up, dramatically reducing the flow.
