Mule trains take visitors down the Bright Angel Trail. Over five nights, we backpacked down this heavily traveled trail, across the Tonto plateau to the west, and eventually back up the rugged, unmaintained Hermit Trail. Having backpacked into the canyon many times over the last thirty years and taken a day-trip down on mules once, I would much rather hike!
