After a brief stop in Yellowstone National Park, where we were fortunate to observe an immature Bald Eagle struggling to carry a fish caught by one of its parents and a family of trumpeter swans, we spent ten nights on a loop backpacking trip from Elkhart Park near Pinedale, WY. While readying our equipment for the outing, we encountered a gorgeous American Kestrel on an old snag above Fremont Lake.
Besides spectacular mountains
and hundreds of lakes
throughout the area, wildflowers were especially beautiful this
year, including Indian
Paintbrush and Columbine
in a variety of colors, Tansy
Asters, and Marsh
Marigolds. Close-ups of tundra flowers employing wide depth of field
to capture mountainous vistas show the variety of flower species,
including Alpine Clover and
and an Elephant Head stalk that appears to be larger than the
viewer. Insects, including large dragonflies
and spectacular Tiger
Swallowtails, and, unfortunately, myriads of mosquitoes,
abound.
